Comics are a fun medium that we have chosen to use for educational purposes: the pleasure of this simplified reading comes with effective and accessible learning, encouraged by readers recognizing themselves and others in the situations presented.

This project reflects the strong wish of young people supported by Cities Without Violence to take part in developing our awareness tools. In collaboration with comic artist El Diablo (illustrator of the film Les Lascars), their experiences and the paths that led them to embrace violent radical ideas are illustrated with humour. Beyond the therapeutic aspect of the process, these young people shared their life stories with great motivation and energy.

Specific objectives:

  • Raise awareness by illustrating the societal, political and identity factors on which radicalization builds in vulnerable individuals
  • Show the reality and subtlety of the phenomenon, whose hold and progression are rarely noticeable, particularly for a young teenage audience searching for identity and vulnerable to influence
  • Present the impact of violent radicalization on young people and those around them through everyday behaviours and situations
