Taking proactive action
Cities Without Violence seeks to act proactively by addressing the many causes and conditions that give rise to radicalization leading to violence, hate-motivated acts and gun violence.
To do so, a coordinated mobilization of everyone involved is essential. Prevention is therefore the sum of the efforts of all of Québec society: citizens of all ages, frontline workers, community organizations, police services, private and public institutions, and more.
Our approach
Cities Without Violence develops concrete strategies and actions aimed at reducing the risk that a person will become involved in violent radicalization, commit hate-motivated acts or use gun violence, or at preventing the negative consequences for themselves, their loved ones and society.
Through the training, guides and tools we have developed, we raise public awareness of the diverse nature of these phenomena, of how to recognize behaviours that may lead to radicalization, hate-motivated acts and gun violence, and of how to adopt caring and respectful responses suited to the type of situation encountered.
Our tools
In parallel, we are developing a series of tools and initiatives on preventing hate crimes and incidents and gun violence, as well as strategies to help communities build and maintain social cohesion.
RÉFLEXE sheets are educational, plain-language tools that help you decode some of the complex social phenomena that shape our daily lives and contribute to radicalization leading to violence.
Cities Without Violence offers a wide range of prevention activities, whose focus and content are designed to effectively equip target audiences and those affected by radicalization leading to violence:
Awareness workshops for youth
Awareness workshops for parents

Development of prevention strategies tailored to the specific needs of a setting
