The Radicalishow comic book series was developed by Cities Without Violence to raise awareness of radicalization leading to violence from a new angle.

To carry out this project, Cities Without Violence enlisted, in 2016, the talents of comic artist El Diablo, known in particular for the TV series and film Les Lascars. To write the script for Ils sont parmi nous (They Are Among Us), the artist gathered testimonies from people who, at one point or another in their lives, had embraced extremist ideologies. He also explored the subject of violent extremism in depth with Cities Without Violence specialists. He then devoted himself to creating the comic Ils sont parmi nous, a fictional work on violent right-wing extremism, but one largely inspired by reality.

What it’s about

The far-right radical groups first shed light on the recruitment methods often used by agents of radicalization. The comic also addresses the many human rights violations committed by far-right radical groups to express their xenophobia in the name of conspiracy theories: many far-right groups share the theory that certain elites are conspiring against the population in order to dominate it.

Beyond the violence, the comic above all emphasizes the possibilities and real cases of disengagement. It is important to highlight the need for, and success of, supporting people in situations of radicalization, even in correctional settings: the support and social reintegration mission of Cities Without Violence is part of this perspective.

Specific objectives:
